The song has now been radically remixed by French production/ remix duo Mustard Pimp - who are offering the remix as a free download here: http://soundcloud.com/mustard-pimp/chappo-come-home-mustard-pimp  Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stefano Noferini!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stefano Noferini - 'Bibong' (Original Mix) Like Joseph Capriati posted below - Stefano Noferini is also an Italian artist/ dj - Stefano being from Florence. He's been releasing his own original music for 15 years and he also started his own record label called Dee-P-erfect. He's just released a new two track EP called 'Bibong' on the newly revamped Azuli Records label and it's currently available exclusively from Beatport here: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/home/detail/1/beatport#app=3b73&a486-index=2  Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Joseph Capriati!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Joseph Capriati - 'Hooter' (Hans Bouffmyhre Remix) Joseph Capriati is a techno artist/ dj from the city of Caserta in southern Italy. He started dj'ing at age 11 playing house and hip hop in friends garages after school! He says that when he first heard techno in 2003 that something in his mind changed - and he turned to the production side of making music.

Now at 23 he is one of the brightest new stars in techno. He released his debut album called 'Save My Soul' on the Analytic Trail label last July. It included this track called 'Hooter' but just this week he's released a new 4 song EP called 'Save My Soul: Remixes' - where you'll find this remix by Hans Bouffmyhre. It's currently available exclusively from Beatport here: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/home/detail/1/beatport#app=3b73&a486-index=10  and it receives a full release on March 14th... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cub!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cub - 'New York City' Vancouver's Cub released their second album in 1995 called 'Come Out Come Out'. It included two covers - one of John Lennon & Yoko Ono's 'I'm Your Angel' and also the Go-Go's 'Vacation' - as well as a hidden dance track - a seven minute remix of their first hit 'Go Fish'.

Their third album 'Box Of Hair' followed in 1996 and by the time 1997's Australian compilation of singles and rarities called 'Mauler' came out, they had disbanded. If you'd like to learn more about what singer Lisa Marr has been up to you can check out her website here: http://www.lisamarr.org/

'New York City' was covered by They Might Be Giants in 1996 on their 'Factory Showroom' album - but this is the original... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cub!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cub - 'My Chinchilla' 'My Chinchilla' is another Cub (not club!) classic featured on their debut full length called 'Betti-Cola'. It's appears that Satan is throwing candy on them in their bedroom in this video - Cub was known for throwing candy into the audience at their shows! I remember one festival they played at Thunderbird Stadium - I think they had more people at their performance on the side stage than the headliner did on the main one! Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cub!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cub - 'Go Fish' One thing leads to another... After posting Solar Bears remix of their song 'Cub' yesterday I got to thinking about my all time favorite Vancouver band - Cub! They were a female indie pop trio that released their first single in 1992 - a six song EP called 'Pep'. I worked at Coast 1040 back then, which was Vancouver's first modern rock station. This was before mp3's of course, so we played about 80% cd's and 20% records - of songs available only on vinyl. (there were also a few songs on DAT tapes!) Out of everything we played Cub's 'Pep' EP was the only piece of 7" vinyl! (the only format that 'Pep' came out on - although these songs later appeared on their 1993 debut full length 'Betti-Cola' - which featured Neko Case drumming on a few tracks, and artwork by Dan De Carlo of Archie Comics fame!) Cub's sound was dubbed by some as 'cuddlecore' - both innocent and fun... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Solar Bears!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Solar Bears - 'Cub' (Keep Shelly In Athens Remix) Dublin's Solar Bears released their debut album called 'She Was Coloured In' on the Planet Mu label last fall. Their song 'Cub' has just been remixed by Athens Greece duo Keep Shelly In Athens... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Human League!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Human League - 'Never Let me Go' (Aeroplane Remix) The Human League are set to release their tenth studio album called 'Credo' on March 28th! They released the first new single from it called 'Night People' in November (which for me, crossed that fine line between catchy and too repetitive). 'Never Let Me Go' is the next single due out a week before the albums release on March 21st - this is an excellent remix from Belgium's Aeroplane... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Jam & Spoon!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Jam & Spoon - 'Stella 99' (Wackside Tweaker Remix) The breathy vocals of Cari Golden on the Booka Shade remix of Pan-Pot's 'Captain My Captain' that I posted yesterday reminded me of Jam & Spoon's classic track 'Stella'. This in turn reminded me of this great remix that came out in 1999!

Jam & Spoon were a duo from Frankfurt Germany - 'Stella' was their first hit single (released in 1992) and is considered to be a techno and trance classic. Although it's been remixed many times, the best collection of remixes came out in 1999 in the form of 'Stella 1999 - 1992: How Stella Got Her Groove Back' - which contained the original version plus six new remixes - spread across a two part cd single and on a three part 12" vinyl set. This standout French disco house remix is from Wackside - a trio that also hails from Frankfurt... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Pan-Pot!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Pan-Pot featuring Cari Golden - 'Captain My Captain' (Booka Shade Remix) I featured a remix by Berlin duo Pan-Pot just last Wednesday (of 'Phobos') and now they've just released 3 brand new remixes of their latest single today! Their original version of 'Captain My Captain' (featuring Los Angeles vocalist Cari Golden) first came out on the Mobilee label in November, but there's now new remixes from Rodriguez Jr., Daniel Stefanik, and fellow Berlin duo Booka Shade. I had a tough time deciding on which mix to post - as all three are really good - here's Booka Shade's remix... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Moby!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Moby - 'Victoria Lucas' On Thursday I featured a Pet Shop Boys remix by Moby from 1991 - before he had even released his debut album. Fast forward two decades and now he's set to release his new studio album - his twelfth - in May! It's called 'Destroyed' - contains 15 tracks - and is out on May 16th. He describes the album as "broken down melodic electronic music for empty cities at 2 a.m". He's also releasing a book of photos - the first collection he's ever compiled - also called 'Destroyed'.

As a taster for the album he's released a 3 song EP called 'Be The One'. It contains the title track (featured in the movie 'The Next 3 Days'), one called 'Sevastopol' (a city in the Ukraine) and this song called 'Victoria Lucas' (which was writer Sylvia Plath's pseudonym). All three songs are also featured on the album and he's decided to make the EP available for free from his official website here: http://www.moby.com/journal/2011-02-15/destroyed.html

He's also started a section on his website called mobygratis.com (http://mobygratis.com/film-music.html) where he offers music for free to filmmakers and film students who seek music for their non-profit film, video or short. He also makes it available to commercial artists, but asks that any money made be given to the Human Society - a very cool idea!

He's made his own homemade videos for each of the 3 songs on the 'Be The One' EP - this is both my favorite song and video of the bunch - 'Victoria Lucas' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! The Bangles/ Bassnectar!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! The Bangles - 'Walk Like An Egyptian' (Bassnectar's 2003 Remix) Lorin Ashton is from Santa Cruz California and is better known as Bassnectar and he has an interesting story behind this song... "A few hours after hearing the news that Egypt was becoming a democracy I was sitting on a plane next to my buddy Tamer, who is Egyptian, and the joy in his face was electrifying. He was beaming, and I thought maybe it would be fun to dust off this old tune and huck it out into vapor space".

"This was a song I loved as a child, and something I started working on back in 2002. I called it the 2003 remix because I think that is when I actually finished it, but of course I never released it; just kept it as a secret weapon and bootleg. (I love the whistling part in the middle.)"

The Bangles are an all female band from Los Angeles - and 'Walk Like An Egyptian' was a world wide number one hit from their 'Different Light' album which was released in 1986. The band is currently preparing for a summer concert tour (dates are still to be announced) and will be playing the 25th anniversary of the SXSW Music Festival in Austin Texas in March! You can get a free download of this remix courtesy of Bassnectar himself here: http://www.bassnectar.net/2011/02/walk-like-a-blog-post/  Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Koen Groeneveld & Ahmet Sendil!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Koen Groeneveld & Ahmet Sendil - 'Turboprop' (Ahmet Sendil Mix) Dutch dj/ producer (and former member of Klubbheads) Koen Groeneveld and Turkish dj Ahmet Sendil have teamed up on this new track out now on Groeneveld's own Abzolut label. In case you wondered, a turboprop is a type of engine used in aircraft with propellers - this song would certainly make for some cool inflight music! Both gentlemen have done a remix of this song - this is Ahmet Sendil's... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Radiohead!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Radiohead - 'Bloom' 'Bloom' is the first track of eight on Radiohead's new album 'The King Of Limbs' (released online today!) - and the most electronic based. The album will see a physical release on cd on March 28th (U.K.)/ 29th (North America). As is the case with pretty much every other Radiohead release, there will also be a special limited edition available - this one called the 'Newspaper Edition'. This version will contain two 10" vinyl records, a cd and various pieces of artwork in special oxo-degradable packaging - and will be released on May 9th/ 10th. This is 'Bloom' - the second flower related new Radiohead track I've posted today... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Radiohead!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Radiohead - 'Lotus Flower' Radiohead had the interweb abuzz on Valentine's day with the announcement that they would release their new album in just 5 days! Well if that wasn't a surprise enough now they've gone and tricked us as well be releasing it a day early! 'King Of Limbs' is their 8th studio album and you can buy it now here: http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/ They've also just released the first single and video for 'Lotus Flower'! I like this song better than many a recent Radiohead song as I've found that he's generally chosen to sing in a much more whiny style on recent albums, compared to their first four releases.

The video itself is somewhat amusing. I suppose Thom can be forgiven for not knowing all the words just yet - it is brand new after all - but to make up for it he's developed some new dance moves! If you're going out dancing this weekend perhaps you can learn a few steps - everybody do the Thom Yorke! I'm not dissing him of course - they were my favorite band up to (and including) 'Kid A' - I even got to meet him once! I just haven't been as into them since then - but aside from needing a bit of a scrub up - I think Thom is sounding pretty good here on 'Lotus Flower'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Pet Shop Boys - 'Miserablism' (Moby Electro Mix) This particular remix of 'Miserablism' by a young man named Richard Melville Hall - better known as Moby - was first released in 1991. It was available as the b-side to their 'Was It Worth It' 12" in the U.K. and included on the U.S. maxi cd single only, until 1995 when it appeared on their double cd set called 'Alternative' which was a compilation of the b-sides from their first 30 (!) singles - in chronological order! (to date they've had 42 singles chart in the top 30 on the U.K. charts!) I consider this to be both one of their best b-sides - and their best remixes... Enjoy!

Thursday 17 February 2011

SummersRadio™ New Music! (Preview!) Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ New Music! (Preview) Pet Shop Boys - 'The Most Incredible Thing' The Pet Shop Boys have always been very theatrical - both in sound and performance. In 2001 they produced a musical with British playwright Jonathan Harvey called 'Closer To Heaven'. In 2004 they performed with an orchestra and wrote a new soundtrack for the 1925 silent film called 'Battleship Potemkin'. So it wasn't all that surprising to hear that they've recently been working on a ballet!

It's an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale called 'The Most Incredible Thing' and it opens in London in March. They're also releasing the music on a double cd on March 14th! It's already available for pre-order and you can find out more from their official website here: http://petshopboys.co.uk/news I'm generally not a fan of snippets but this is a generous sample (10 minutes worth!) of various tracks from the soundtrack for 'The Most Incredible Thing'. Not surprisingly some is pretty mellow, but there are a number of upbeat numbers as well. And it's perhaps not that surprising either that a number of them sound very Pet Shop Boys... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Marc Romboy vs Stephan Bodzin!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Marc Romboy vs Stephan Bodzin - 'Phobos' (Pan-Pot Remix) Germany's Marc Romboy started the Systematic label in 2004 and he's collaborated with fellow German Stephan Bodzin on over a dozen singles! 'Phobos' was first released in 2006 as the b-side to their 'Ferdinand' single - and now they've just released 3 brand new remixes of the classic tune! It's also going to be included on their forthcoming full length compilation called 'Luna' which is due out March 4th.

'Luna' just happens to be the name of both Bodzin's wife and Romboy's daughter - one website I checked cheekily pointed out that they weren't the same person! It will be available on a six piece vinyl set and on a triple cd. It will have 3 parts - the first disc will be an unmixed selection of their productions together, the second part will be an 80 minute mixed set of originals and remixes, and the third part will be an mp3 cd containing 24 remixes by artists such as Gui Boratto, Joris Voorn, Minilogue and many others - including this excellent remix is by Berlin duo Pan-Pot... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Steffi!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Steffi - 'Mine' Like 'Manic Moods' posted below, this song is from Steffi's debut cd called 'Yours & Mine' - out now... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Steffi!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Steffi - 'Manic Moods' Steffi is a Berlin based Dutch artist/ producer/ dj who has just released her first album! It's called 'Yours & Mine' and it's out on the Ostgut Ton label. This track is called 'Manic Moods' - but the name is a titch deceiving - it's actually quite sublime... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Presents... Love Stinks! - A Valentine's Day Spectacular! Julee Cruise!

SummersRadio™ And now the conclusion of Love Stinks! - A SummersRadio™ Valentine's Day Spectacular! Julee Cruise - 'Mysteries Of Love' 'Mysteries Of Love' was written by composer Angelo Badalamenti with lyrics by David Lynch - and it was created for Lynch's 1986 film 'Blue Velvet'. It was also included on Julee Cruise's 1989 debut album called 'Floating Into The Night'. Julee Cruise is currently based in New York and is set to release a new album (her fourth) later this year! I love the strings in this song - her dreamy vocals - and the simplicity of the lyrics:

'Sometimes A Wind Blows
And The Mysteries Of Love
Come clear'

So yeah - love stinks sometimes - but truth be told I remain a romantic fool. I hope you all find the love you're looking for - and soon! Happy Valentine's Day!

SummersRadio™ Presents... Love Stinks! - A Valentine's Day Spectacular! Lou Reed!

SummersRadio™ Love Stinks! - A SummersRadio™ Valentine's Day Spectacular! continues... Lou Reed - 'Perfect Day' (Acoustic Demo) 'Perfect Day' first appeared on Lou Reed's 1972 album 'Transformer'. It became a massive hit in the U.K. in 1997 when it was released as an all star charity single for the BBC. This particular acoustic version was included as a bonus track on the 30th anniversary edition of 'Transformer'. It features slightly different lyrics - he refers to it as a 'summers day' a few times instead of a perfect one - which is a perfect version for me with my last name being Summers! The lyrics are largely romantic but with a hint of cynicism with lines like 'you just keep me hanging on' and 'you're going to reap just what you sow'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Presents... Love Stinks! - A Valentine's Day Spectacular! Anne Clark!

SummersRadio™ Love Stinks! - A SummersRadio™ Valentine's Day Spectacular! continues... Anne Clark - 'Hope Road' There are times when you meet someone who has potential - when you almost fall in love instantly - thinking about how good it would be if things worked out. That feeling of hope, like love itself, can be quite magical - until it's dashed away!

Anne Clark is a poet and songwriter from London who released her first album in 1982. Her most recent release came out in November - an EP called 'Past And Future Tense (Chapter One)' - which features new remixes of some of her classic songs. 'Hope Road' was a classic single released in 1987 from her 'Hopeless Cases' album... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Presents... Love Stinks! - A Valentine's Day Spectacular! White Stripes!

SummersRadio™ Love Stinks! - A SummersRadio™ Valentine's Day Spectacular! continues... White Stripes - 'Jolene' (Studio Version) Dolly Parton has certainly written some classic love songs - the heartfelt 'I Will Always Love You' and the innocent 'Love Is Like A Butterfly' come to mind - but they sound worlds away from the pleading insecurity that fuels her chart topping 1973 hit 'Jolene'. Sure, you can meet the right person - but what if they find someone else or someone else decides they want them too??

No doubt you've heard by now that the White Stripes have called it quits - as officially announced on their website on Feb. 2nd. This studio version of 'Jolene' was first released as a b-side to their 2000 single 'Hello Operator' - and a live version was later released as a single in 2004. Aside from being a great cover, what makes this version particularly interesting is the fact that Jack White is singing the lyrics - thus putting a bit of a gay twist on it, adding an entirely new dimension to the song... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Presents... Love Stinks! - A Valentine's Day Spectacular! Fiery Furnaces!

SummersRadio™ Welcome to 'Love Stinks! - SummersRadio's Valentine's Day Spectacular'! Today is the day for lovers - I am single - but music is my one true love, so as always I shall share it with you! Yes, today's songs will be about love - but let's face it, although we all seek it, love is rather complicated. Let's explore this concept through some quality music... Fiery Furnaces - 'Single Again' The Fiery Furnaces are Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger - a brother and sister duo that started recording together in the year 2000 in Brooklyn. 'Single Again' addresses some of the darker sides of marriage and was included on their 2005 release simply called 'EP' - which was a collection of most of their singles and b-sides up to that point... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Death Cab For Cutie!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Death Cab For Cutie - 'The New Year' (Germany Germany Remix) While there's still no official release date set for Death Cab For Cutie's new album it shouldn't be far off, as every article I've seen written on the subject lately says that it's due in the 'Spring'! It will be their seventh full length release and it's called 'Codes And Keys' and it's apparently going to be less guitar focused than previous albums. While we wait for new music from DCFC we can enjoy this new remix of 'The New Year' from 2003's 'Transatlanticism' album - by Victoria's Germany Germany - which you can download for free here: http://soundcloud.com/germanygermany/death-cab-for-cutie-the-new-year-germany-germany-remix ... SummersRadio™ New Music! High Highs!

SummersRadio™ New Music! High Highs - 'Flowers Bloom' High Highs are a trio originally from Australia that are now based in Brooklyn. They've previously released just two tracks online, in November - this is their third and latest song called 'Flowers Bloom'. This song fits perfectly right now... I just had a puppet show - and I was admiring how many bulbs are sprouting up on my balcony - I counted 56! Someone may or may not have been high when they labeled this youtube entry - it says 'flowers boom' - which would likely be quite a different sounding song! The sun is setting and although the air is cool, it feels a bit like spring - and so does this tune - Enjoy!

p.s. if this song is to your liking you can buy it from their website for $1 here: http://highhighs.com/  You can also support them on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/highhighs?v=info  I like how they list 'silence' as one of their influences - Cheers!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Boxer Rebellion!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Boxer Rebellion - 'Both Sides Are Even' Here's another fine song from the new Boxer Rebellion album called 'The Cold Still' - released today. SummersRadio™ New Mashup + Free Download! Arcade Fire Vs Blondie!

SummersRadio™ New Mashup + Free Download! Arcade Fire Vs Blondie - 'Sprawl Of Glass' (The Hood Internet Mashup) Finally!! As soon as I first heard Arcade Fire's 'Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)' I immediately thought it would sound great mashed up with Blondie's 'Heart Of Glass'! I even mentioned it when I first posted the song on my Facebook group back on Aug. 3rd last year (scroll WAY down in the older posts to see http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=699880219#!/group.php?gid=366897324071) as well as on my Best Of 2010 posts on Dec. 14th - both on FB and here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-arcade-fire.html Anyway the good news is that someone's finally done it - yay!!

The Hood Internet are a Chicago based production duo consisting of Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV or Steve Sleeve). They generally specialize in mashups of hip hop and indie rock - although there are exceptions like this one of course. They also tour performing their live dj sets and they have their own blog which you can check out here: http://www.thehoodinternet.com/ and if this ace mashup is to your liking you can get a free download copy of the song from their Soundcloud page here: http://soundcloud.com/hoodinternet/the-hood-internet-sprawl-of-glass-arcade-fire-x-blondie

I wish that they used the full album version of 'Heart Of Glass' so this was a bit longer and there were some more duels between some of the sounds distinct to each song (like how my remix of it sounds in my head!) but alas I don't know how to do it myself - and this still sounds awesome so... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Alex Metric & Steve Angello!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Alex Metric & Steve Angello - 'Open Your Eyes' (Original Mix) I actually first posted this song last September (via the SummersRadio™ Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=366897324071), but then when I wanted to repost it during my Best Of 2010 listings all I could find was a preview snippet - and I don't like snippets!

Someone had obviously posted the song well before it was time, as it's only been released exclusively on Beatport this week - and even now it's only available in certain countries - and still not in Canada! Regardless, London's Alex Metric and Stockholm's Steve Angello have created a club masterpiece. With it's many varied sounds and tempo changes it manages to sound like a whole night full of great music in just over 7 minutes!

I've been a fan of Alex Metric's work for many years and although I find some of Steve Angello's music a bit too mainstream for my taste, this is a good pairing - a nice mix of underground and popular sounds - I particularly like the Daft Punk-y part about 2:15 in... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Kills!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Kills - 'Satellite' As mentioned on one of my posts on Jan. 18th, The Kills release their new album (their third) called 'Blood Pressures' on April 4th. At the time there was no word yet on a single, but the first one has now surfaced online - it's called 'Satellite' and it's the second track on the album. It's a slower paced - almost reggae style - distorted guitar tune... Enjoy!
