SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Bassnectar!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Bassnectar - 'Upside Down' Bassnectar have just posted a new song online from their forthcoming album! Lorin Ashton aka Bassnectar is set to release his new album - his eighth - called 'Divergent Spectrum' on August 2nd. He's released 'Upside Down' online as the first taster - a song which he describes as 'the kind of melting-pot mutant music you blast when you want to impress your pet Walrus.'

If the song is to your liking you can download it for free just by entering your e-mail address here: http://www.bassnectar.net/2011/06/upside-down-drops/ where you can also preview a couple other tracks from 'Divergent Spectrum'. This is 'Upside Down'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Thievery Corporation!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Thievery Corporation - 'Take My Soul'/ 'Stargazer'/ 'Fragments' Washington D.C. duo Thievery Corporation release their new studio album of original material - their sixth - today! The album is called 'Culture Of Fear' and features their trademark mix of styles including downtempo, trip hop, dub, reggae, acid jazz, hip hop and lounge music. It contains 13 tracks - with a mix of vocal numbers and a few instrumentals. Vocalists include longtime collaborators Lou Lou and Sleepy Wonder - as well as several new contributors including Mr. Lif, Ras Puma, Shana Halligan (of Bitter:Sweet) and newcomer Kota.

Their website describes the new album as 'a simmering and hazy collection of atmospheric gems that recalls their early production work but reflects a thoroughly contemporary zeitgeist of socio-political angst and unease.' Rob Garza and Eric Hilton are never ones to shy away from politics, and both the album title ('Culture Of Fear') and the artwork - featuring a large 'hidden' camera - are common words and objects of discussion in today's society. This point is further driven home with song titles like the album opener 'Web Of Deception' and the seven minute plus instrumental called 'Tower Seven' - named after the 47 storey building which collapsed on 9/11 even though it wasn't hit by a plane.

Despite it's political overtones the album musically speaking is chock full of relaxing beats, and is released just in time for some summer chillin' in the sun. Here are three standout tracks from 'Culture Of Fear' - first up we have 'Take My Soul'... Enjoy!

This is the fifth track on the album - one of a couple reggae tunes - called 'Stargazer'... Enjoy!

I like the overall spacey feel of this instrumental number - the eleventh track on the album - called 'Fragments'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! White Lies!

SummersRadio™ New Music! White Lies - 'Holy Ghost' White Lies release their new single 'Holy Ghost' today! 'Holy Ghost' is the third single from their second album called 'Ritual' which was released in January. The song will be available on a limited green vinyl 7" - the single itself is remixed by Alan Moulder and the b-side features a remix from the Bookhouse Boys. Another remix by Shitdisco is available on itunes. (in the U.K.) This new video is directed by Canada - which is a 'directing collective' that is actually from Barcelona - who've previously made videos for Battles, the Vaccines and the Scissor Sisters... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bjork!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bjork - 'Crystalline' I mentioned a couple weeks ago when I posted two Bjork 'teaser videos' that I would post the new song in full when it becomes available - and so here we have the full length version of her new single 'Crystalline'! 'Crystalline' is the first single from her forthcoming seventh studio album called 'Biophilia' - which is due for release on Sept. 26th. The song starts off quietly with the focus on her vocals until some minimal beats come in at about 50 seconds in - which carries you along dreamily until a sudden explosion of drum machine fireworks madness shakes you awake in the last minute...
Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Richard Dinsdale & Wally Lopez!

SummersRadio™ New(ish) Remix! Wally Lopez & Richard Dinsdale - 'Shamba' (Luigi Rocca Remix) Surrey's Richard Dinsdale (that's Surrey U.K. - not the Vancouver suburb!) and Madrid's Wally Lopez initally released their new single 'Shamba' at the end of March. It was released on Italy's 303lovers label and featured the 'Original Mix' and the 'Sideburn & Redondo Remix'. About a month and a half later they released the 'Luigi Rocca Remix' - which I instantly fell in love with! The original mixes have a distinct world music/ house vibe - which is just fine - but I loved how Rocca transformed it by adding a massive rolling bassline and a number of trippy keyboard bits.

HOWEVER there was only a 2 minute sample available on Soundcloud, so I thought I'd wait until someone posted the full version somewhere. So I waited. And I waited. And waited. But I can wait no more! While there's still no full version posted anywhere (legal of course) 303lovers has recently posted a longer edit on youtube - just a titch over 3 minutes long - this shall have to suffice. It's a great remix you see, so you must hear it - and it would sound awesome as part of the soundtrack to anyone's summer of 2011! The full remix is 6:38, and if it's to your liking it's available exclusively on Beatport. This the 'Luigi Rocca Remix' of 'Shamba'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Umek!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Umek - 'Get Sucked' You can always count on Slovenia's Umek and his label 1605 Music Therapy for a great club tune - and his latest release out this week is no exception! This is the 'Original Mix' - and the only mix thus far - of 'Get Sucked'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Pascal Mollin & Pan-Pot!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! The song has just been re-released under both artists names - featuring 4 brand new remixes! This first one is from Italy's Joseph Capriati... Enjoy!

The EP also features remixes from Pig & Dan, Dustin Zahn, and this one from Thorsten Heiser and Pascal Mollin himself... Enjoy!

It's called 'Hits Me Like A Rock' and it features guest vocals from Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie. It's the first single from their forthcoming third album called 'La Liberacion' which is due for release on August 29th. The album contains 11 tracks including one called 'Red Alert' which is a collaboration with Ratatat. This is the rather summery sounding 'Hits Me Like a Rock'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! YACHT!

SummersRadio™ New Music! YACHT - 'Tripped And Fell In Love' YACHT began in 2002 as the solo project of Portland Oregon's Jona Bechtolt. He released three albums between 2002 and 2008 - when the project officially became a duo with the addition of long time collaborator Claire L. Evans.

YACHT released their first album as a duo in 2009 called 'See Mystery Lights' on DFA Records - and they've just released their second album today! It's called 'Shangri-La' and it's also out on the DFA label. It contains ten tracks including the first single 'Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)' and the new single 'Utopia'. The wonderfully titled 'Tripped And Fell In Love' is the ninth track on the album and would certainly be a wise choice for single number three... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Ladytron!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Ladytron - 'Ambulances' Ladytron have just released another song from their new album! Last month we featured the first single 'White Elephant' from their fifth studio album entitled 'Gravity The Seducer' which due for release on Sept. 12th - 'Ambulances' is the new official single and is available for download on itunes for just 69 cents... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Igor Cold & Ilya Malyuev!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Igor Cold & Ilya Malyuev - 'For Little' (Ilya Malyuev Version/ Igor Cold Version) Igor Cold and Ilya Malyuev are two Russian producers who've just released a new ep called 'For Little'. It's out on Moscow's Somebody's Story label and contains two distinctly different versions of the title track - one version by each collaborator! I think one might appreciate this song best if heard in the order that I first did - although either way both tracks are great - first up we have the wonderfully dreamy 'Ilya Malyuev Version'... Enjoy!

And here's the club friendly 'Igor Cold Version' of 'For Little' from the 'For Little' EP which is available exclusively on Beatport ... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Junior Boys!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Junior Boys - 'A Truly Happy Ending' (Keljet Remix) Hamilton's 'indie-tronica duo' Junior Boys released their fourth studio album called 'It's All True' earlier this week. It contains nine tracks including the first single 'Banana Ripple' and the original version of this song 'A Truly Happy Ending'.

Keljet are also a duo from Nijmegen Netherlands - that have remixed artists such as Passion Pit, The xx, Scissor Sisters, Faithless and Two Door Cinema Club. They also did an excellent remix of LCD Soundsystem's 'You Wanted A Hit' which made my 'Best Of 2010' list last year! ( http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-lcd_22.html)

This their new remix of 'A Truly Happy Ending'... Enjoy!

Lucky for us Keljet makes all their remixes available as a free download on Soundcloud! If the above remix is to your liking you can download it - along with their LCD Soundsystem remix - and many others here: http://soundcloud.com/keljet/tracks?page=1

SummersRadio™ New Music! Perc!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Perc - 'My Head Is Slowly Exploding' London's Ali Wells aka Perc has just released his debut album! It's called 'Wicker & Steel' - contains nine tracks - and is released on his own Perc Trax label. His style is best decribed at 'atmospheric drone and premium techno'. This is the first single from the album called 'My Head Is Slowly Exploding' - I kinda felt that way last night - and again today, but in a less fun way if you know what I mean! :) It features remixes from Ancient Methods and Chris Carter of Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey fame. This is the 'Original Mix' - which has an equally sparse and hypnotic video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Tom Wax!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Tom Wax - 'It's Our Future' (The Updates 2011) Germany's Thomas Wedel aka Tom Wax and his friend Thorsten Adler formed AWeX in 1994. In 1995 their song 'It's Our Future' acheived huge success and became the anthem of Berlin's annual Love Parade and an acid techno classic!

This week Tom Wax has just released a new EP for the song on the Great Stuff Recordings label featuring four new remixes! The remixes include 'The Update Original Mix', the 'Tube & Berger Remix' - and these two are my favorites of the bunch. First up we have the remix by Amsterdam's DJ Madskillz... Enjoy!

(please note that Great Stuff Recordings only posts 'short versions' of their releases online for sharing - the 'DJ Madskillz Remix' is actually 6 min 22 seconds and the 'Lutzenkirchen Remix' is 6:30)

This is the 'Lutzenkirchen Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Longwalkshortdock!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Longwalkshortdock! Vancouver's Dave King aka Longwalkshortdock is set to release his second album this Friday! The follow up to his 2009 debut 'Casual Tea' will be celebrated this Friday night with a live performance at Stereotype at Celebrities!

Longwalkshortdock is not one to stand motionless behind his array of equipment - if you're in the Vancouver area I highly reccomend checking out his trademark energetic performance. He's just released this promo video (I said promo video - not teaser!) :) online for his new album coming out on the East Van Digtal label called 'Bigger Fish Frying'...

While we await  the release of 'Bigger Fish Frying' - here are a couple of tracks from his first album entitled 'Casual Tea' - this is 'Will I Dream?'... Enjoy!

This is another track from his 'Casual Tea' release - more to come as new songs become available! Longwalkshortdock's styles are pretty varied - even by his own description - various songs on Soundcloud are described as 'Deathno', 'Deathstep', 'Drone' and 'Egg-Spare-A-Mint'(al). This is 'I Will Kill You With Techno'... Enjoy!

p.s. you can support Longwalkshortdock's fan page on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/event.phpeid=217560728273019&ref=ts#!/longwalkshortdock

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Deadmau5!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Deadmau5 - 'Fifths' (Max Zotti Remix) I'm not a huge Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 fan - I mean it's great that he's Canadian (born in Niagara Falls - lives in Toronto) and he's done so well for himself - but he's also a bit of a jerk. Aside from previously dissing dj's and dj'ing in general (followed by a half-assed apology) he recently told his Facebook friends that he would be deleting a lot of them soon. Well if you want to do that - then just do it - don't announce it to everyone and piss off your fans while they wait to see if they're cut!

Anyway, jerkness aside, some of his songs don't do anything for me - but some I like - such as this one! 'Fifths' was first released as a single in 2008 but it's just been re-released on the Hi-Bias Records label with two new remixes - one by Matteo DiMarr - and this one from Italy's Max Zotti... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Bjork!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Bjork! Well yesterday we featured a teaser video from Grandaddy and today we have not one, but two teaser video's from Iceland's Bjork! Bjork's seventh studio album is called 'Biophilia' and is going to be the world's first 'app album' - a collaboration with Apple that will be released via 10 iPad apps! Thus far there is no confirmed date for a physical release of the album - although the first single 'Crystalline' is schedule for release on June 30th.

Bjork will be performing songs from the album at a series of concerts in Manchester between June 22nd and July 16th. The performances will include special instruments designed specifically for the shows, including "custom-built digitally controlled pipe organs, a gamelan-celeste hybrid and a 30-foot pendulum that harnesses the planet's gravitational pull to create musical patterns." Not your run of the mill rock show then - but then Bjork has never settled for ordinary.

This first teaser video is entitled 'Road To Crystalline' and it features Bjork driving down the highway listening to a portion of the first single 'Crystalline'... Enjoy!

This second teaser video was released online today just a few hours ago and is called 'Gameleste' - and it features the specially designed gameland-celeste hybrid. A gameland is a set of instruments built together as one unit that usually features xylophones, flutes, gongs and strings - and a celeste is somewhat similar to a piano. This is 'Gameleste'... Enjoy!

It looks like these instruments will be as exciting to watch on stage as Bjork herself! I will of course post full songs when they become available - and that's enough 'teasing' for this week - my next post will contain only a full song (or songs) - Cheers!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Grandaddy!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Grandaddy! This week Grandaddy and former singer/ guitarist/ keyboardist and lyricist Jason Lytle posted this teaser video...

Grandaddy were an indie rock band from Modesto California that were together from 1992 - 2006. They released four studio albums - along with several self released albums, compilations and EP's. 'The Sophtware Slump' was their second studio album and was released in May 2000. It's considered by some to be a concept album about the problems with modern technology in society. I believe it to be that and much more - while Radiohead's 'Ok Computer' reflected the themes of pre-millenium tension, Grandaddy's 'Sophtware Slump' was the first release of the new millenium to reflect life after NYE 1999 - the opening track on the album 'He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot' features the lyrics 'How's it goin' 2000 man? Welcome back to solid ground my friend'.

The indie music magazine 'Under The Radar' ranked 'The Sophtware Slump' at number 15 on it's Best Albums of the Decade list for 2000-2009. While it would be a tough list to make, it would also rank in my top 10 albums of all time! So while there are no further details as yet on what the new deluxe edition will include - I present here a revisit to the beauty of 'The Sophware Slump'.

The album features two tracks about Jed - an alcoholic robot. Jed was first introduced in a song called 'Jeddy 3's Poem' on their rare 1999 EP called 'Signal To Snow Ratio' - which was included on a 2cd limited edition of 'The Sophtware Slump' - hopefully this new deluxe edition will feature those four tracks as well. This is a fan made video for the album track 'Jed's Other Poem (Beautiful Ground)' which was made with a vintage 1979 Apple computer... Enjoy!

Grandaddy didn't make a lot of official video's - this is one of two that were made for 'The Sophware Slump' - this one is for 'The Crystal Lake' - which was the first official single... Enjoy!

Here's another fan made video for another album track called 'Underneath The Weeping Willow'... Enjoy!

More Grandaddy to come when further details of 'The Sophtware Slump' Deluxe Edition are released - Cheers!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! + Free Download! Umek - 'Fenaton 2011' Slovenia's Umek has released a new remix of his track called 'Fenaton' and he's made it available as a free download! 'Fenaton' was originally released on the Bugged Out label back in 2002. Umek has now remixed the track and released it on his own 1605 Music Therapy label - along with this highlarious video! This is 'Fenaton 2011' - and if the track is to your liking you can download it for free here courtesy of Umek himself: http://soundcloud.com/sixteenofive/umek-fenaton-2011  This bird knows how to party... SummersRadio™ Classic Remixes! Kasabian!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remixes! Kasabian - 'Vlad The Impaler' (Zane Lowe Remix)/ 'Where Did All The Love Go?' (Burns Remix) I mentioned yesterday that I thought the new Kasabian track 'Switchblade Smile' had a lot of potential for club remixes - and Kasabian has always delivered when it comes to fine remixes. I thought I'd post a couple from their last album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' - which was released in June 2009 and was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, and won best album at the 2009 Q Awards - in case you haven't heard them in a while, or missed them the first time around.

Both of these acid techno inspired remixes were included on the single for 'Where Did All The Love Go?' - the 'Zane Lowe Remix' of 'Vlad The Impaler' was the b-side on the cd single, and the 'Burns Remix' was the b-side on the 10" vinyl single - and both are available as a download on itunes. First up we have the remix of 'Vlad The Impaler' by London's Zane Lowe - the BBC Radio 1 dj who is aka 'Zipper' - which, I suppose, is slighty better than being known as 'Zipperhead'... Enjoy!

And this is 'Burns Remix' of 'Where Did All The Love Go?'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kasabian!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kasabian - 'Switchblade Smile' The first song from Kasabian's forthcoming new album has been released to radio in the U.K. and surfaced online! 'Switchblade Smile' is the name of the track and it's still unknown at this point if it's the first official single - or just a taster from the album.

Kasabian are from Leicestershire England and they are set to release their fourth studio album called 'Velociraptor!' on September 19th - it contains 10 tracks and 'Switchblade Smile' is the album closer. It's an interesting song - it rocks but there are some nice keyboard bits in it as well which would certainly work well with some club remixes in the future - this is 'Switchblade Smile'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Depeche Mode!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! As you may have noticed by my enthusiasm for the new Depeche Mode remix album in previous posts - I am a longtime Mode fan! Clearly I'm not the only one, as the April 7th post of Alex Metric's remix of 'Personal Jesus' sits at number 1 on my most viewed posts - with a very comfortable lead over all the others in the top 10! And here we are two months later - and 'Remixes 2: 81-11' is finally released!

So today we shall celebrate with 2 more of the new 2011 remixes - including one which isn't even on the cd! I was checking out today's new releases on itunes earlier and noticed that they list 39 tracks for the 'Deluxe Version' - which is the equivalent of the 3cd set. But the cd has 37 tracks... first I noticed that there's an edited version of Alex Metric's remix of 'Personal Jesus' - but unless it's radically different who really wants an edited version?! Then I saw the other additonal track - not just an edit, but another brand new 2011 remix! 'Master And Servant' (RSS Remix) is a remix exclusive to itunes - and the good news is that there's none of the 'album purchase only' restrictive nonsense that itunes occasionally uses to screw it's customers with! So if you plan on buying the physical cd like myself you can download this one exclusive remix on it's own. And if that's not good enough news I must also say that it's an awesome remix - it even has some squelchy acid techno bits in it!

This is the new 'RSS Remix' of 'Master And Servant'... Enjoy!

Another one of the new remixes that I was eager to hear - but it wasn't posted anywhere on the interweb yet - was the Joebot remix of 'A Question Of Time'. Well it's surfaced now of course - here's the 'Joebot Presents "Radio Face" Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Aki Bergen!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Aki Bergen featuring Lazarusman - 'Get Better' (Original Mix) Aki Bergen is a dj/producer from Dublin Ireland who's styles include dub, deep house, electronica and downtempo. He's just released a new EP on Italy's Neurotraxx Deluxe label called 'Together'/ 'Get Better'. It features the original mix of 'Together' and three versions of 'Get Better'. This song expands on the themes of yesterday's post from Mark Fanciulli - pondering some of the important questions of life (like 'When will the blunts get longer?') :) and the power of our own thoughts... Enjoy!

p.s. I've just realized that both today's and yesterday's posts have a song on the a-side called 'Together' - and in both cases I've preferred and posted the b-side songs... and instead put them 'together' :)

Saturday 4 June 2011

SummersRadio™ New Music! Mark Fanciulli!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Mark Fanciulli - 'The Tide' (Joris Voorn Edit) Nic Fanciulli, Mark Fanciulli (both from Maidstone England) and Joris Voorn (from Amsterdam) have just released a new EP called 'Together'. It's released on the Rejected Music label which was started by Joris Voorn and has two tracks. The title track is a collaboration between Nic Fanciulli and Joris Voorn and the b-side as it were is a track called 'The Tide' from Nic's brother Mark - which is remixed by Joris!

This is my favorite of the two tracks - 'The Tide'. It doesn't have a lot of lyrics, but they are interesting - contemplating the power of Mother Nature - and ourselves a bit too... Enjoy!

'Mother' is the first single and video from the album and was inspired by the 90's goth/ fetish New York nightclub of the same name. Debbie Harry still looks and sounds amazing - it's hard to believe that she'll be turning 66 next month! This is 'Mother'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Fedde Le Grand!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Fedde Le Grand - 'Metrum' (Original Club Mix) Fedde Le Grand is a Dutch dj/ producer from Utrecht Netherlands who is best known for his 2006 electro/ house worldwide smash 'Put Your Hand Up For Detroit'. He's just released a brand new single this week called 'Metrum' on the Toolroom Records label, which leans more towards a techno sound with some amazing production. There are two versions available - a remix by Manuel De La Mare - and this is the 'Original Club Mix'... Enjoy!
