SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Saint Etienne!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Saint Etienne - 'Haunted Jukebox'

It's time to bring STARTLEFEST 2012 to a close - I hope you weren't too startled by what you've heard! We've got one more scary song though - 'Haunted Jukebox' is the closing track on Saint Etienne's latest album 'Words And Music By...'. I mentioned being haunted be ex-lovers previously - this song relates to that, but in this case it's the memory triggered by music itself that gets you.

'Haunted Jukebox' is certainly and apt title for Halloween - and let's be honest - what band is more frightening and evil than Saint Etienne - the Marilyn Manson of British electronic pop? Actually this post is the perfect segue - it's Halloween night, and tomorrow I travel to Seattle to see Saint Etienne live at the Showbox! I can't wait!!!

Behold the malevolent Saint Etienne and 'Haunted Jukebox'... Happy Halloween everyone! :)

Enjoy...

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! The 6ths!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! The 6ths Featuring Neil Hannon - 'The Dead Only Quickly Decay'

Halloween is at odds with itself. It's a fun time - and also a celebration that revolves around evil and fear. Ghosts, goblins, witches, demons and devils - what does it all add up to? What really happens when you die? Will you spend enternity in some fiery cave below the earth's crust because you told a lie when you were five, or because you once smoked a joint and said that you didn't inhale, when you really did?

Perhaps such things are just a bunch of bruhaha - maybe when we die, we simply die.

The average pop song is usually around three and a half minutes long - and the average dance tune maybe six minutes. There's aren't a lot of memorable tracks only a minute long - but we have an exception here. 'The Dead Only Quickly Decay' is a song from the 6ths second album called 'Hyacinths And Thistles' - say that one ten times fast - I dare you!

The 6ths are one of many side projects of Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields - although he writes all the songs he chooses a different singer to record the vocals on each track. This song features Neil Hannon from the Irish band The Divine Comedy. 'The Dead Only Quickly Decay' is both creepy and cheeky - who else but Merritt would think to rhyme decay and soufflé... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Rare Remix! Siouxsie & The Banshees!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Rare Remix! Siouxsie & The Banshees - 'Fear (Of The Unknown)' (12" Vertigo Mix)

Halloween allows humans to have fun with their fears - of death, what happens after death - and of the unknown in general. This Siouxsie & The Banshees remix is quite rare for a number of reasons - 'Fear (Of The Unknown)' was only released as a single in the U.S. - it's the band's only single that was never released in the U.K. And this '12" Vertigo Mix' was only released on vinyl, so it can be difficult to find. It's also likely Siousxie's only rave hit. Whaaaaaat? Yes, it's a rave remix!

'Fear (Of The Unknown)' was released as the third single from their 1991 album 'Superstition' - the original was produced by Stephen Hague. The U.S. 12" single featured two remixes from Junior Vasquez - this '12" Vertigo Mix' - and a dub version. While some may peg 1991 as the year that punk broke with the rise of Nirvana - it was also the year that club music and raves erupted in the North American underground scene.

And so it was this context that explains the massive keyboard hooks which may frighten some hardcore Siouxsie fans - and delight some others. I love the production on this... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Classic! Love & Rockets!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Classic! Love & Rockets - 'Haunted When The Minutes Drag'

What's scarier than being haunted by a thousand ghosts, spirits and demons? Being haunted by one person - who's still alive - an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend! Few musicians have summed up that experience as perfectly as Love & Rockets did with their song 'Haunted When The Minutes Drag' on their debut album 'Seventh Dream Of Teenage Heaven', which was released in October 1985.

Although never released as a single 'Haunted When The Minutes Drag' was featured in John Hughes 1988 film 'She's Having A Baby'. These guys know how to create a mood - Daniel Ash and David J did of course co-write the goth classic 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' as members of Bauhaus in 1979. So whatever you may be haunted by, may you find comfort in the chilling sounds of this atmospheric Love & Rockets classic... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Gossip!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Gossip - 'Get A Job' (Wankelmut Remix)

Gossip have just posted a new remix of their song 'Get A Job' on their Facebook page today! 'Get A Job' is the third track (and possible third single?) from the Portland trio's latest album 'A Joyful Noise' which was released in May.

This new remix is by Jacob aka Wankelmut - a dj/ producer from Berlin - you can check out some of his other work on Soundcloud here: http://soundcloud.com/wankelmut

He turns up the dancey bits that the original only hints at and transforms the song into a full on dancefloor friendly treat... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Twilight Sad!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Twilight Sad - 'Not Sleeping' (Tom Furse Dub Mix)

The Twilight Sad have just released a new remix online today! The Twilight Sad are an indie rock trio from Scotland that released their third album called 'No One Can Ever Know' (featuring production assistance from Andrew Weatherall) on the Fat Cat label in February. On November 5th they are releasing 'No One Can Ever Know - The Remixes' which will be available on both cd and vinyl as well as a digital download. It features nine tracks - three remixes of 'Sick' and two each of 'Nil', 'The Alphabet', and 'Not Sleeping' - from the likes of Liars, Com Truise and Breton.

The band have just released this remix of 'Not Sleeping' by Tom Furse from The Horrors to both Stereogum and Rolling Stone online today - and as a free download! So if this beautiful remix is to your liking you download a copy for free from either here: http://stereogum.com/1184962/the-twilight-sad-not-sleeping-tom-furse-dub-mix/news/ or m'here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/not-sleeping-by-the-twilight-sad-tom-furse-dub-mix-free-mp3-20121026

The 'Tom Furse Dub Mix' is dub in the sense that it's without the lyrics - an instrumental remix that transforms the original into a magical seven minute cinematic journey... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Hot Hot Hawk!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Hot Hot Hawk - 'Rise And Down' (Moskva-Kassiopeya Remix)

Hot Hot Hawk are an electro/ synthpop duo from Kurgan, Russia that have previously released two EP's and a single thus far - all this year. Their third EP released this month is a five track remix EP for their single 'Rise And Down'!

The song features the vocals of Ksenia Popova and the 'Rise And Down' EP includes the original plus four remixes - and they're all available as a free download courtesy of the Wearerussians.com label!

The 'Moskva-Kassiopeya Remix' is my favorite of the lot - I like how it starts with the 'Dream Weaver' style keyboards, and the overall space disco vibe of the song. If it's to your liking you can get a copy for free by clicking the download icon below - or download the full EP for free from their label here: http://wearerussians.com/LABEL

You can also keep up with Hot Hot Hawk on Facebook m'here: http://www.facebook.com/george.peddle#!/pages/Hot-Hot-Hawk/283067421798858

SummersRadio™ 2 Year Anniversary!! New Music! Lola Dutronic!

SummersRadio™ 2 Year Anniversary!! New Music! Lola Dutronic - 'S.O.S.'

Today marks the 2nd Anniversary of SummersRadio™'s official blog! Although the Facebook group began six months prior and we actually began posting as such on Facebook in 2008, we officially transitioned into a blog two years ago today! So we're up to 891 posts so far (with many that feature more than one song) - that's a lot of quality new music :) I hope you're enjoying it - many thanks to each and every one of you who've viewed and listened so far - Cheers!!

So today we shall celebrate with some new music from Toronto/ Dusseldorf duo Lola Dutronic. We recently featured their clever new single and video 'Everybody Loves You When You're Dead' last month which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/09/summersradio-new-music-lola-dutronic.html

Both 'Everybody Loves You When You're Dead' and 'S.O.S.' are from their latest album called 'Everyone's A Star' which is available on itunes. 'S.O.S.' is a brilliant cover of Dire Straits first hit single - 1979's 'Sultans Of Swing' from their self titled debut album.

I had fun playing this song for a few people who recognized or even knew the lyrics, but couldn't name the original - it drove them crazy until the chorus. That's because musically speaking 'S.O.S.' is quite the metamorphosis - from British pub rock to European electro pop - and singer Stephanie B's vocals are more akin to the lovely Miss Kittin than the rather gruff Mark Knopfler... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Depeche Mode!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Depeche Mode - 'Angel'

Depeche Mode held a press conference today to announce the first details of their 2013 stadium tour - and they also offered us the first taste of their new album! The press conference was held in Paris earlier today and started with this video (below) of a new song that is most likely called 'Angel Of Love'. (update: it's just 'Angel' actually) It was revealed later in the question period that followed that it doesn't officially have a title yet - nor does their forthcoming new studio album (their thirteenth). They did however announce the full details of the European portion of next year's worldwide tour.

The 34 date tour covering 25 countries begins in Tel Aviv on May 7th and wraps up July 29th in Minsk. The full list of cities with ticket links can be found here on their official website: http://countdown.depechemode.com/ There will also be a North American leg to follow - but those dates are still a mystery for now.

So this untitled new song (let's call it 'Angel Of Love') is what one might call traditional Depeche Mode. It resembles their 1993 single 'I Feel You' a bit - particularly around 1:40 in. Martin Gore mentioned during the conference that he felt that the new material was a cross between 'Violator' and 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' - 'optimistic' he said. 'Dark' a fan countered - 'Not to me' he replied. You can watch the full interview/ question period m'here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09hgbZ8GPoM

No word yet on whether or not this is just an album track or the first official single (a nice acid techno remix would be sweet) but naturally I'll keep you posted... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Michael Mayer!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Michael Mayer - 'Mantasy'

Germany's Michael Mayer has just released his new album called 'Mantasy' today! 'Mantasy' is Mayer's second solo album and it features eleven tracks including the first single 'Good Times' which features WhoMadeWho's vocalist Jeppe Kjellberg. It's released on the Kompakt label (he's also one of the label's co-owners) and it's available digitally - as well as on cd and vinyl here: http://www.kompakt.fm/releases

'Mantasy''s sounds are very diverse - Mayer says that the album "clearly reflects the gazillions of sounds I'm listening to in private, especially my love for soundtracks or soundtrack-like music". The album's title track is my initial favourite - it certainly has a cinematic feel to it - and a Giorgio Moroder disco influence, but a bit darker... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Pet Shop Boys - 'Leaving' (Lost Her Love Remix)

The Pet Shop Boys have released several new remix packages for their latest single 'Leaving'! 'Leaving' is the second official single from their latest album 'Elysium' and it's available on a number of formats including on 7" and 12" vinyl, a two part cd single, and a three part digital EP - 'Leaving', 'Leaving Remixed' and 'Leaving Again'. The 'Lost Her Love Remix' is from the 'Leaving Remixed' EP and cd single.

I have a lot of love for this duo - not many artists have a remix this amazing on their 55th single - yes, their 55th single! They are electronic/ synth legends but I don't have quite as much love for the new album as a whole: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/09/summersradio-new-music-pet-shop-boys.html

I was hoping that some remixes might save 'Leaving' from being anything more than pablum - and this new 'Lost Her Love Remix' by Italian dj/ producer Dusty Kid exceeds all expectations! He catapults the original into another galaxy - this eleven and a half minute journey includes multi-layered keyboards, vocoder and even some cowbell that eventually leads to one of my most favourite places... spacey acid techno territory - it's bliss! Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! James Benitez! Namito + Pig & Dan!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! James Benitez - 'Martin Gore' (Original Mix)/ Namito + Pig & Dan - 'The Stars Are Falling' (Rainer Weichhold & Nick Olivetti Remix)

Germany's BluFin label have just released their latest compilation called 'BluFin Loves Amsterdam 03'! The compilation features fifteen massive tracks including exclusive new remixes - and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/blufin-loves-amsterdam-03/981130

'Martin Gore' is the title track from James Benitez's latest EP, and the second track on the 'BluFin Loves Amsterdam 03' compilation - which features audio samples from an interview with the Depeche Mode mainstay. It doesn't sample Depeche Mode musically though - 'Martin Gore' has a hypnotic Giorgio Moroder influenced disco/ techno vibe with some nice Rinocerose style guitar bits - and even some bonus cowbell... Enjoy!

'BluFin Loves Amsterdam 03' opens with this new remix of Namito + Pig & Dan's song 'The Stars Are Falling' by Rainer Weichhold & Nick Olivetti - a perfect song to listen to whilst perhaps well sedated in the wee hours of the morning... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Marco Bailey! Christian Smith!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Marco Bailey - 'Whispering Leaves' (Original Mix)/ Christian Smith - 'The Judgement' (Original Mix)

Bedrock Records has just released their latest compilation called 'Bedrock 14'! 'Bedrock 14' is naturally the fourteenth artist compilation from the label started by Nick Muir and John Digweed fourteen years ago. The compilation compiled by Digweed features 21 solid exclusive unmixed tracks from the label's favorite artists and some of their latest signings, that proves that the label is still at the top of their game. It's available on both itunes and Beatport (much cheaper on itunes).

I've chosen my two initial favorite tracks - first up is Marco Bailey's 'Whispering Leaves' - the hypnotic and melodic tenth track on the compilation. It's that time of here year in Vancouver - the air is notably colder - leaves are everywhere. You can hear them whispering - saying terrible things... Enjoy!

Christian Smith's 'The Judgement' is the sixth track from 'Bedrock 14' and it features a steady buildup that will lure you into the dance before you know it... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Low Jack!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Low Jack - 'Look At My Pyramid' (Original Mix)

Low Jack is an artist/ dj/ producer from Paris who's just released a new EP called 'Slow Dance'! The four song 'Slow Dance' EP features the original mix and a 'Geeeman Remix' of the title track - as well as the songs 'Look At My Pyramid' and 'The Manifest'. It's released on the Get The Curse Music label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/slow-dance-ep/975014

The title track 'Slow Dance' is an inviting spaced out sonic trip but I reckon I like the second track 'Look At My Pyramid' even more. 'Look At My Pyramid' has wicked keyboard sounds (I particularly like the build around 50 seconds in), more cowbell and drifting vocal samples that remind me of a cross between Bobby Gillespie's more drugged out moments from Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica' masterpiece... and a porno film!

It also has a nice swagger to it... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + New Video! Moullinex!

SummersRadio™ New Music + New Video! Moullinex - 'Take My Pain Away' (Original Mix/ Official Video)/ (DJ Steef Remix)/ Moullinex Featuring Peaches - 'Maniac'

Munich's Luis Clara Gomes aka Moullinex has released a new EP for his new single called 'Take My Pain Away'! The EP features five tracks - the original plus remixes from Gigamesh, Rory Phillips, Strip Steve and DJ Steef. 'Take My Pain Away' is the first single released from his forthcoming debut album called 'Flora' which is released on the 26th.

The new EP is released on the Gomma label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport here: http://www.beatport.com/#release/take-my-pain-away/979591

Like most of Moullinex's EP's 'Take My Pain Away' has a strong underlying disco vibe to it and the song features catchy reassuring vocals from the Jovens Vozes de Lisboa choir. It's a children's choir but somehow they manage to sound a bit like Boney M meets the Tom Tom Club or The Polyphonic Spree in this uplifting dance tune... Enjoy!

This is the 'DJ Steef Remix' of 'Take My Pain Away' - the keyboards are more up front and hypnotic, and the vocals are bit more subtle. Please note that this version is edited - the full 'DJ Steef Remix' features an extra three minutes of hypnotic bliss...Enjoy!

Bonus Track! Back in January Gomma released an eight track EP - four songs plus four remixes - called 'Casablanca Reworks'. It featured some of their artists covering songs from the legendary Casablanca Records catalogue - and they asked Peaches to provide the vocals!

This is Moullinex Featuring Peaches' version of 'Maniac' originally from the 'Flashdance' soundtrack (the 'Casablanca Reworks' EP is available on itunes)... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Chromatics! Recycle Culture!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Chromatics - 'These Streets Will Never Look The Same' (Recycle Culture Night Bus Remix)

Mysterious producer Recycle Culture has just released a new remix of the Chromatics single 'These Streets Will Never Look The Same'! Chromatics are an electronic pop band from Portland, Oregon who released their latest album this spring called 'Kill For Love' - 'These Streets...' is one of it's seventeen tracks.

Little is known about Recycle Culture - other than it appears to be a one man project who's previously remixed Grimes and Elite Gymnastics. He's also just released a new remix of The xx's 'Chained' - you can check out all of them on his tumblr site here: http://recycleculture.tumblr.com/

If this 'Recycle Culture Night Bus Remix' of 'These Streets Will Never Look The Same' is to your liking you can download your free copy here: http://www.mediafire.com/?82o7qt7r8v5194r

Recycle Culture adds interesting vocal effects, bigger drums and a sublime acid techno underbelly to the Steve Nicks 'Edge Of Seventeen' guitar inspired vibe of the sprawling original. This remix is suitable for soundtracking a journey via any mode - be it car, night bus, or of the mind... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Tomcraft Featuring Sister Bliss!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Tomcraft Featuring Sister Bliss - 'Supersonic' (Original Mix)

Munich's Tomcraft has just released his latest single called 'Supersonic' - a collaboration with Sister Bliss! Sister Bliss is one of the founding members of Faithless - London's electronica/ dance legends who decided to call it a day last year with their 'Thank You And Goodbye' tour. I didn't see any of their final shows as they never came to Vancouver, but I was lucky enough to see them in London in 2002 at the Brixton Academy - and they were amazing!

'Supersonic' is a one track single released on the Kosmo Records label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/supersonic/967264

Whereas Maxi Jazz usually handled the main vocal duties for Faithless this time Sister Bliss provides the powerful spoken word action. 'Supersonic' is dark monster of a tune that could be about EDM dj's - dance music fans - or all of us - that's guaranteed to liven up your weekend... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Butch!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Butch - '303' (Original Mix)

Germany's Bulent Gurler aka Butch has just released a new EP called 'Retechno'! The four track EP features the original mixes of the title track and a thirteen minute opus called 'Soul Leaves Body' - along with a remix of each track from Paul Ritch and Okain respectively. 'Retechno' is released on the Quartz Rec label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/retechno-ep/975294

'303' of course refers to the Roland TB-303 - the early eighties bass synthesizer responsible for creating the original acid sound. The song features multiple layers of fascinating sounds to keep your ears (and brain) entertained... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Green Velvet & Harvard Bass!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Green Velvet & Harvard Bass - 'Lazer Beams' (Original Mix)

Green Velvet and Harvard Bass have just released a new single called 'Lazer Beams'! The duo have already released one of the year's finest club tunes - 'Kickin It' - from their 'Jumbo Mumbo' EP which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/03/summersradio-new-music-green-velvet.html

Like 'Kickin It', 'Lazer Beams' is a likely contender for my Best Of 2012 countdown. The one track single is released on the Relief Records label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport m'here: http://www.beatport.com/#downloads/available

The song is cleverly based around an ominous keyboard sample from Frankie Goes To Hollywood's massive single 'Relax' which was produced by Trevor Horn. They also utilize the 'Hit me with those lazer beams' line but this is no cover song - it's an exciting new acid techno tinged journey that transcends time and space... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! How To Destroy Angels!

SummersRadio™ New Music! How To Destroy Angels - 'Keep It Together'

How To Destroy Angels have just released a new single today called 'Keep it Together'! How To Destroy Angels consists of Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross and artist Rob Sheridan. They released a self titled EP in 2010 and 'Keep It Together' is the first single from their forthcoming second EP called 'An Omen' - which will feature six tracks and it's released on November 13th. Their debut full length album will be released next year but there's no release date set just yet - the new single is available on itunes as of today.

Perhaps not surprisingly How To Destroy Angels sound does not differ that greatly from that of Nine Inch Nails - their quieter, moodier side that is. The music is minimal, dark and atmospheric - with the one notable difference being the soft female vocals of his wife Mariqueen. This official video isn't going to win any awards (feel free to skip the first 35 seconds of tape cueing!) but it's a decent song about trying to - or failing to - 'Keep It Together'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Peaches!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Peaches - 'Burst!'/ 'Burst!' (Bart B More Remix)

Peaches has just released a new single and remix EP called 'Burst!'! The 'Burst!' EP features the original plus six remixes of the title track from the likes of Bart B More, UZ, and planningtorock. The song was co-produced by Boys Noize & XXXchange and Peaches herself. It's released on Boys Noize own Boysnoise Records label and it's available now on itunes.

'Burst!' is sleek futuristic electro/ techno number - or 'Techno-Punk 6000' as it's listed on one of its Soundcloud posts - about the need to get laid. It's certainly one of the strongest singles of her career - let's begin with the original. She's looking quite ravishing on the cover art I must say... Enjoy!

The production on the original is a sonic treat in itself, so how does one top it? The Netherlands Bart B More pulls it off with an acid techno rollercoaster ride that makes me want to squeal with delight - buy a grossly overpriced photo of it at the end - and then run back to the entrance to line up to ride it again... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Foxygen!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Foxygen - 'Shuggie'

Foxygen are an indie rock duo who've just released a new single online called 'Shuggie'! Foxygen consists of vocalist Sam France from Olympia, Washington and Jonathan Rado who plays guitars and keyboards from New York City. They released their debut album called 'Take The Kids Off Broadway' earlier this year on the Breakfast Horse/ Jagjaguwar labels.

'Shuggie' is the first single released from their forthcoming second album confidently/ cheekily titled 'We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors Of Peace & Magic' which is set for release on January 22nd, 2013.  The song has some psychedelic rock influences and it sounds a bit like MGMT meets Wings... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Dan Deacon!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Dan Deacon - 'Crash Jam'

Baltimore's Dan Deacon is an experimental artist that mixes electronica, indie rock, and contemporary classical music together to create his own unique sound. 'Crash Jam' looks set to be the second single (following 'True Thrush') off of his latest album 'America' - about his mixed feelings on being an American - which was released in late August on Domino Records.

Deacon is known for his live shows that usually find him performing on the floor with the audience who are invited to participate in the performance. He'll be coming to Vancouver on Friday October the 26th to play at the Biltmore Cabaret - tickets are available here: http://www.ticketweb.ca/

'Crash Jam' is a surreal tune with swirling keyboards, layered vocals and numerous energetic tempo changes which will undoubtedly work the crowd at his live shows into a pogoing frenzy... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Writer!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Writer - 'Disparate Youth'/ 'Hot Days'/ 'Family Dinner' (WonderYears RemiX)

Writer are a duo currently based in Brooklyn - brothers James and Andy Ralph - who will be releasing their debut album called 'Brotherface' later this month! 'Brotherface' will feature ten tracks and it's released on October 30th on the U.K. label 3 Syllables. They describe their sound as 'GhettoTech Garage Rock' and they appear to be influenced by both shoegaze and experimental electronica.

In addition to the forthcoming new album, the band have just released a new track online this week - a rather disparate cover of Santigold's 'Disparate Youth' which I find quite superior to the original. They stray away from the pop/ reggae sheen of the original and instead offer generous layers of fuzzy guitars and booming drums reminiscent of legendary bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain and the Pixes - with a dash of Grandaddy style keyboard loops.

If this wall of sound cover is to your liking wearesolidgold have made it available as a free download on their Soundcloud page here: http://soundcloud.com/wearesolidgold/disparate-youth-santigold

Enjoy...!

WRITER / Disparate Youth (Santigold) - Animated-Loop from BROTHERS RALPH on Vimeo.

'Hot Days' is the band's official new single and video from their forthcoming album 'Brotherface' - filmed in part in the Joshua Tree National Park in the Mojave Desert... Enjoy!

Writer have released four singles so far this year in the lead up to their debut - all four are included on 'Brotherface' - and all four songs are available with b-sides and remixes on their Bandcamp site here: http://writertheband.bandcamp.com/ You can also keep up with the band on Facebook m'here: http://www.facebook.com/writertheband#!/writertheband

This is the 'WonderYears RemiX' of the title track from their 'Family Dinner' single - while autotune is pure evil, vocoders are always awesome (and they've withstood the test of time)... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Recondite!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Recondite - 'DRGN'

Berlin artist/ producer Recondite has just released a new two track EP called 'DRGN'/ 'Wist 365'! It's released on London's Hotflush Recordings label and it's available on both itunes and Beatport (cheaper on itunes).

Recondite is also the owner of his own label called Plangent Records: http://www.plangent-records.com/Plangent_Records.html I like their description as a 'platform for deep/ melancholic electronic music'.

'DRGN' paints an intriguing landscape - I reckon this would be perfect to listen to whilst flying over the surface of Mars in a spacecopter searching for signs of life - for real, or even just in your imagination... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! D-Nox & Beckers!

SummersRadio™ New Music! D-Nox & Beckers - 'Legit' (Original Mix)

German duo D-Nox & Beckers have just released a new EP called 'Legit'! The EP features six tracks - two mixes of 'Legit' and four of a song called 'Narita Express'. It's released 'on the kitties label' Suara and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/legit-ep/968679

The title track 'Legit' has a classic house vibe complete with a cowbell and upfront piano hooks. I like the lyrics - they're minimal but they address some important topics - the choices we make, and doing the right thing... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! C2C!

SummersRadio™ New Music! C2C Featuring Jay-Jay Johanson - 'Give Up The Ghost'

I know it's late but I'm still recovering from Saturday night so let's go with something chill today :) Coups2Cross aka C2C are a four member turntablist group from Nantes, France who are set to release their debut album called 'Tetra' next month! The group are four time DMC dj World Champions and they combine electronica, jazz, hip hop and soul into their original compositions. 'Tetra' features fourteen tracks and it's released in Canada on October 22nd on the On And On Records label.

'Give Up The Ghost' is the eighth track on the album and features guest vocals from Sweden's Jay-Jay Johanson - it sounds like a song that could very well fit in nicely on The Avalanches second album - if they ever actually make one... Enjoy!
